food banks all across the nation play a
vital role in helping those who are food insecure. But what exactly is a food bank
and where do they get their food from? Food banks believe that no one should go
hungry. Our mission is to relieve hunger in the community through a network of
partner agencies by acquiring and distributing food. We receive our
donations from over 60 donors ranging from local farmers small and large
businesses or even individuals. Those donations include things such as canned
goods, pasta, peanut butter, meat, dairy, and fresh produce.
They are then distributed to our community of over 100 member agencies.
These are places such as soup kitchens community shelters churches and more. One
in five people in the Miami Valley struggle with food insecurity. By having
access to the food bank our member agencies are able to help our neighbors
relieve that stress. What makes our food bank unique is in addition to our member
agencies we are able to directly give to our community through our drive-thru
pantry. Every week we are able to serve hundreds of families and individuals by
loading their car full of fresh and nutritious food that they might not have
access to otherwise. We serve all members of the community- whether they are
veterans single parents senior citizens or even people who are just struggling
to make ends meet. The vision at the food bank is that no
one should go hungry. Visit our website to find out more on how we can help.
