Asalam-u-Alaikum my name is Zia Tabarak. I am currently in Lahore and this is the Delhi Gate. During Mughal period the Walled City of Lahore used to have 13 gates… …and Delhi Gate is one of them. It’s known as Delhi Gate because it opened in the direction of Delhi… …and people used this gate to go there. The passage of this gate also leads to Wazir Khan Mosque… …which was built in the 17th Century. The famous Khalifa Bakers is also here. Meher Das Kulcha as well which is also a historical shop. And there’s a lot more stuff inside here. So lets go inside here & see what’s happening inside. Chalain! (Lets Go!) Salam Uncle! These are Potato Samosas? Potato. And these? Also Potato. Aloo Tikki? Yes. Ok so we read some history when we were coming inside. And the passage from this gate till the Fort … …was called Shahi Rasta (Royal Route). Because Akbar used it when he was ruling and Ranjeet Singh as well. It was reconstructed back in the British Rule & is renovated again recently. There’s a Samosa Stall here as well right at the entrance. Delicious Potato Samosa. Let’s try it with Ketchup. Delicious & Crispy. During the Mughal Era this was the Shahi Hammam(Royal Bath)… …used by the Royals. Back at my house we just have normal washroom with shower… …and they used to have completely separate system. This used to be the changing room… …and come from here and go straight into the Hammam. These items were extracted during the renovation. Dahi Vada’s There’s this Dahi Vada stall right in front of the gate. And the Samosa’s right there. Let’s move forward. Aslam Naan Kebab Shop. Salam Uncle! How are you? I am fine. What do you have Uncle? Naan & Kebab. And How much is it? Rs. 30 for Kebab & Rs. 12 for Naan. You tell me which one’s good? That Kebab is made with eggs. Anda Kebab (Kebab w/ Egg) will be Rs. 70 That’s Anda Tikki? Yes. Make one for us. Chicken Kebab and some spices. What are its ingredients? These are just regular spices. Do you want to know every single ingredient? You should just enjoy its taste. I guess the recipe is a secret. You don’t want your recipe to be out. [Laughs at the Question] They have this amazing Chutney as well. That was Naan & Chutney & this is out Naan and Kebab. Hot & Fresh Naan. The Naan is fried as well. Very Good! Amazing taste. Kebab is good but… …but the Anda Ghotala they’ve mixed with it… We Karachites call it Anda Ghotala. The eggs in it make it taste a little bit like Chapli Kebab. You can call it a Mini Chapli Kebab. We’ve made it like this, so that it taste like Chapli Kebab. Having this Anda Tikki in Old Lahore is a different experience. Great! Allah Hafiz. Amazing Vibe. So many historical buildings are here. It’s a completely different world inside here. What a city Lahore is! We came really deep inside of these street & we have to go to Wazir Khan Mosque… …and Shahid told us that we came at the wrong place, I’ll lead you towards the mosque now. This is the Wazir Khan Mosque. This Mosque was built in 17th century by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. The drawings & calligraphy on the walls & minarets… … are the main center of attraction of this mosque. The tomb of Sufi saint Miran Shah is also in the Courtyard of this Mosque… …who came here in 13th century from Iran. Before the construction of Badshahi Mosque this used to be the main mosque. There’s a limca stall right outside the mosque. And Dal Chawal as well. And Chargha’s are being made right here. And that street leads to Khalifa Bakers… …and their Nankhatai’s are famous in the entire country. So let’s go there. There’s a board of “Karachi Naseeb Biryani” on our route Where’s this shop? They have closed. They’re now at Anarkali Bazar. Where’s Khalifa Bakery? From there? There’s some Milk Almond Soda as well. Salam Brother. How much for this Milk Soda? Rs.60. This is the bottle? I’ve seen this bottle in movies. That contains something else but this has Milk Soda. So let’s try it. Wow! This Soda cooled me down. Almonds & Cardamom give it a nice taste. This is Milk & Soda mixed that’s why it’s called Milk Soda. Chilled in ice & great in summers. And it tastes great. This is the Khalifa Bakery. We tried really hard finding it and here we are. Their Nankhatai’s are famous in the entire Pakistan. And right in front of it is this tea shop & they’re watching Cricket Match. India & Pakistan are playing today. India scored 334 on 5 wickets. People watch Cricket like this whenever Pakistan & India are playing. Everyone has their eyes on the Match. 334 run on 5 wickets. 335 now. But this match would’ve ended by the time you watch this video… …& maybe even the World Cup. So let’s go inside the Bakery. Salam. How are you. This has a unique taste. I’ve tried a lot of Nankhatai’s but this one’s different. So tell us when it all started & the unique thing about them. So my Great Grandfather started this business. Unique thing about them is they’re made in Desi Ghee. And it has Almonds. This is our own secret recipe. Do you guys make anything else? Yes we have Chickpea Cookies, Date Cookies & our Cake Rusk. These are our famous items including Nankhatai. So where do you guys prepare these Nankhatai’s? All of it is on the Upper Floors. So are they preparing it right now? Yeah they are. So can we see it? You want to see it as well? It’ll be really great. So this is their Bakery. Super Kitchen. This is the Kneaded Dough with the ingredients mixed. Its being sent forward for baking. And it goes in these trays. Just check out their speed. These people prepare the Nankhatai’s there. Then these trays are sent here… …& this guy here applies milk on them. Amazing I always wanted to see how these Nankhatai’s were prepared. So approximately how many of these are prepared in a day? About 7-8 tons a day. This machine is used to mix the flour & their recipe. These are the Almonds that go in these Nankhatai’s They don’t grind these Almonds. These trays come here & this is their Oven. Amazing! This is some Special Oven? Yes it is. These Nankahati’s are continuously in this oven. Wow! These are all done. They keep these prepared Nankhatai’s right here. It’s super hot right now. It’s a unique experience to try their Nankhatai in their Kitchen. And I’m really happy right now because it’s my favorite. I’ve only tried them in Karachi. Really Nice! I can’t even describe how good it tastes. It has roasted Almonds inside it. It’s so good that you can’t stop eating it. A lot of people asked me to bring a parcel for them when I was coming here. Just like Multan’s Sohan Halwa & Hyderabad’s Bombay Bakery… …this Nankhatai is famous in the entire country. Wow! Really Nice! So this was our visit to Wazir Khan Mosque & Walled City of Lahore. I really enjoyed the live process of Khalifa Bakers. And going in these streets was amazing as well.
